Almost every clothing company has massive old-seasonal stocks in the warehouse. This is particularly true in the largest clothing manufacturing center – China. Every month when we see new trendy pieces flowing into the stores, at the same time there are same volume of out-of-date clothing moving back from the stores to the warehouse. These garments may sleep in the warehouse for a few years before they are moved to another location for cheap selling.
Yomode is starting up a new project: Yomode aims to re-design and re-transform the massive inventory garments of clothing enterprises to 'new-fashion-look'. They've done some experiments and the project goes so far so good. As you may know China is the largest clothing manufacturing center - they also have the largest volume of inventory in the world. From th ecurrent experiments Yomode has a plan to redesign the inventory clothing is the most efficient way to fully use the inventories again.
Whether this is defined as pre- or post-consumer is a little iffy; but these garments have not entered the major stores, so pre-consumer seems the most appropriate.
But the idea of "3rd hand" is very much upheld in spite of the larger scale, since these items are 1) large volumes 2) refashioned in to something very creative and in larger volumes than one-pieces.
With unsold merchandize as one of the industries "head-aches" - this is an exciting new way of looking at recycling...
