Living Lightly
18. Dec 2011
What does it mean to be sustainable? How do you manage a sustainable business and when can you call your products sustainable? These are only a few of the questions you will have to ask yourself if you wish to change processes and the value o your design products. ‘Living Lightly – sustainable fashion’ is a collection coming up with some of the answers.
Kolding School of Design has a long tradition of researching and educating sustainability. Hereby, an extensive knowledge of all links in the sustainable design process has been accumulated and lately resulted in the collection ‘Living Lightly – sustainable fashion’. The collection is to inspire the fashion industry to a stronger focus on sustainability, as CSR processes are often so complex that most companies are scared off.
But that is not an excuse the ambition of the school seems to be. Even though, there are more than 70 definitions of the term sustainability, Kolding School of Design, have not been reluctant to engage in projects that provide solutions to what it can and should be. The Living Lightly collection introduces methods to sustainable design, but not only, does it aspire to be an inspiration to other designers to engage in developing sustainable design, the people behind the collection also hope that Living Lightly can act as a catalyst for change, a phenomena the fashion industry have proven before to be capable of. In any case, it is a well designed step in the right direction On Friday the 9th of December the collection was presented to companies and the press at the Danish Ministry of the Environment. The event was hosted by Kolding School of Design and Minister for the Environment, Ida Auken. (Photo: Sacha Maric © Designskolen Kolding)
