Putting fabrics through the preparation process of scouring, bleaching, and neutralization before dyeing can create a fabric that is hairy and pilled even before it reaches the consumer.

After wearing and washing, clothes are often still prone to pilling and protruding fiber ends that make the fabric look fuzzy and worn. The chances of this happening can be significantly reduced if textiles are bioblasted during production before they are designed into a piece of clothing and sold to the consumer.
